R.I.P. The Round Hound

The namesake of my homesteader took her last walk today,and that was just to the back yard.We rescued Jackie from a kill shelter,and she had another ten years of a good life.She had heart worm when we got her,damaging her lungs,so she was never the most active dog,thus always on diet food and the nick name,"The Round Hound".She was a good dog.

Sorry for your loss Bill. Jackie is a darling and remember in past posts she would help out with guarding your tanks and assist with a few w/c's from time to time. I sure she knows you gave her that second life to live out happy.

Thanks everyone.Its all part of the cycle but it still sucks.The vet came to our house so we wouldn't have to stress her out getting her into our car.She even started to tear up and I found out Jackie was one of her first paitients when she started her practice.

It was not unexpected.We wanted her to have one more summer and see or son when he visited.We suspected she couldn't make it thru one more winter,and her "bad days"were starting to be many more then her good.In the upcoming weeks,a new pup will be adopted from a shelter.just not right away.

Sorry for your loss. I've been in this same situation, just like others, before. Our four-legged family members look to us to make the best decisions for them, as they can't make them for themselves. I hope that you can find strength in this fact. Thank you for rescuing...it's one of the most rewarding acts of kindness that I know of.

We've almost always had two dogs,so we still have Thor.Im on a small winter lay-off,so Im leaning towards sooner,so it wont be such a burden potty training on my wife.

Just saw this thread...really sorry to hear about Jackie.You gave her 10 happy years...its sad, but she stayed with you as long as she could. Cherish the memories.
