Default Green Tefe biotope: coming soon

On Wednesday my wilds arrive!! The 6 green tefes from John at FreshwaterTropicals will be my first set of wild discus. This is where I hope to track their progress in their new tank. The tank they are going in is a standard 75 gallon with a small school of black neon tetras, 4 laetacara dorsigera and 3 bolivian rams. There are also corydoras, nerites and 3 ancistrus to act as a clean up crew. Manzanita wood and sand make up the hardscape in this tank. It previously housed festivum cichlids which were sold to accommodate for the discus. Here is a picture of the tank, stay tuned for the fish pictures and updates. Cant wait until Wednesday!!!

Great tank and of course Pat has great wilds. I don't have wilds but have come to appreciate them much more. Just one small suggestion. Or actually a question. Is that where you plan to put the heater in that position when the fish do come in? If so it would be better served for you and the discus if it could be put horizontally on the bottom of the back side of the tank. It would be aesthetically more pleasing and of course be out of the way of your fish which can get burned or they may eventually attempt to breed on any vertical thing that is in the tank including a heater. That could injure their breeding tubes. Also it benefits you when doing water changes because it will be closer to the bottom so that it doesn't burst or burn out on you. Will look forward to seeing the fish in the tank and congratulations. It's a lovely home for your new expected arrivals.

Tis a great suggestion Dustin, I shall see what I can do about that. I guess ive looked at it like that so long that I don't even notice it anymore. I do turn it off during water changes, I turn the whole power strip off but you are right about it possibly burning someone.

Hi Jacklyn, Pleasure to make the suggestion. I learned that on this forum a while ago. It was a revelation to me at the time! LOL! But then of course it made sense! Can't wait to see your Tefes when they arrive. Be sure to post pictures. Take care.

FISH ARE HERE!! Currently they sit on my desk at work in a very well packaged, warm box. I took one baggie out to look and the fish inside looked stressed but absolutely beautiful!! I am leaving in t minus 59 minutes to take them home! You have no idea how excited I am.

Jacklyn, once the fish are tanked, lights out for several hours and maybe dim light later in the day. No pics for a while and do not try to feed yet and then only lightly.

Yes Ma'am. The only light will be from the window in the room which has blinds but still lets the afternoon sun glow through them. There is another tank directly across the room from the one these discus are going in, I should turn that tank light off too?? Its a densely planted tank so its lights are bright leds. I wont be feeding them until tomorrow morning I suppose.

I would make it as dark as possible until dinner time then try room lights only.
