    Default My 320L (86 gallon) planted biotope-ish

Here are some pictures of my newly set-up Osaka 320 Tank. I tried to kinda do a modified discus biotope with added south american plants. One of the fish is a 5 year old red turq from Hans the other 6 are newly purchased from Discus USA.

Thanks. I try to get all the poo! I do a swirling motion above them and it seems to pull up most of the poo and detritus. On the white sand portion I do a pretty good job of getting everything. on the right rear corner the substrate is ADA Aquasoil, it is much tougher back there.

Nice and clean. The small amount of plants gives it a nice contrast. I'm hoping mine turns out as nice as yours.

Good looking tank. I really like the turq with the halo. Good job.

Thanks! Yea, I love fish with Halos. I'll post an update soon with a detailed description of my set-up and of course some more pictures once it fills in a bit more.

Congratulations! Your tank looks great and once again proves "less is more".... lovely use of plant material and hard materials, looks natural and yet the entire focus is on the inhabitants ... Fish look absolutely great and very healthy .. could you please clarify "halo"... I'm looking for signs of a halo but can't quite make it out on any fish ...I'm very new to discus obviously ... Thanks. and well done!

A picture describes a halo very well

It is the bluish color on the dorsal and anal fin seen here:

Thanks for the kind words. As Rick said the halo is the black (in my fish) ring that goes along the Dorsal and anal fins. You can see it well on the fish in the third picture on the far right. It is very common in wild fish. I have one fish that is 4-5 years old and he is about 6.5" the rest are new to me and around 5"-5.5".

Here are a couple pictures from tonight. Two of the discus were looking pretty dark. It turns out they were protecting eggs. Is it normal for them to get pretty dark when spawning? Or should I be worried?

Yes, discus turn dark when spawning. That is natural.
