Sue, that may be more along the lines of a cobalt or reflection D cross

My checkerboard pigeon shows very slight peppering but that is due to my dark substrate. My golden checkerboard shows no peppering same with my rafflesia.
Dark substrate can cause peppering but also, from what I understand, the breeding process can also be a factor. I believe a lot of the PB strains have been bread to reduce the peppering factor.
I've seen juvies at my lfs that he has bread that shows signs of peppering before they even have color and they are in a BB tank.
Someone please correct if I'm wrong

I just got him? I think your right Rick, it was sold as a cobalt. thanks Harry, I really like him too. The iPhone pic doesn't do him justice. I bought a fuji apple at the same time and they are now in the qt tank.
no, peppering looks like little black specs on the discus. this little blue discus is showing his barring in the pic tho, he flashes the bars on and off depending on his mood
below is a pic of one of my discus with peppering on his flank and face/lips. he is a lovely little boy but depending on his mood u can sometimes see his freckles a little more or less, despite the bright white backing and bottom of the tank
peppering is genetic, and cant be "cured", but a light back/substrate can help to reduce the appearance of it on ur fish, as they will lighten their colours to blend in with lighter surroundings. it can also be a sign of poor water quality, stress etc
u do not want to breed a pigeon blood discus to a non-pigeon blood discus because the pairing will produce heavily peppered fry
