Honestly, this always confuses me as well and I feel like there are mixed beliefs about it...

You should ask James if these are bred true. If they are just the third generation of true wild red alenquers then they should look very similar to what you have pictured.

If they are mixed some where or a cross of some type then all bets are off...

As far as I know the F addage comes from the spawn... But this is where it gets confusing to me and maybe someone else can chime in.

Obviously the offspring and wilds we get as true wilds from say mark or John arent the first wilds ever and are off spring of other wilds in the lakes and river before them.

Like I said, I think once they start breeding in captivity is when the F is used. so for instance the first spawn of them would be F1's then if you spawn from those they become F2's and so on down the line... so these would be 3-4 spawns from the "true wilds" if bred true...

Often, people struggle to breed true wilds. So a wild 1/2 is used an another fertile discus to blend the two.

You should ask if they have been mixed with any domestics. Would be super cool if they were pure.

Thanks Phil. I totally get it. I just hope if another strain was used than the name be changed from "Wild Red Alenquer f3" to Wild red alenquer cross....

Typically it is... Typically james tells it how it is as well...

He is very responsive to e-mail. Shoot him one and let us know... He is also only going to know what the breeder tells him, so... How are they doing, growing? Pics?

Will do Second hand Pat. Ill prob talk to James again when he post his new shipment. I ask because my fish seem to be completely brown with a reddish hue. Look more like what the pics of a "san merah" looks like. Not what i was looking for. They are still very young though.

If they are only 2.5"-3" what they look like now means virtually nothing...

Give them good clean water daily if possible and watch what happens, you will be amazed at their transformation in the next 6 months to a year. Take pics! Will be fun to see the progress!

Also, take a look at my "started from the bottom" thread... I have some true wild red alenquers so you can see.

I still need to get you here to see in person!
