I'm surprised no-one picked-up on OPs statement "animoina nitrite and nitrates are all 0..." I find it hard to believe that nitrates are at zero. It seems to me that something is wrong with that reading.

If you have lots of fast growing plants and low bioload and don't use ferts, it is very possible to have zero nitrates. This would cause algae problems, so that could be the problem. I've had this happen in some low tech tanks. However looking at the slow growing plants listed, it also could be an expired test kit.

Oh and as for a "best" algae eater, it depends on the type of algae, but I vote for Otocinclus or "otto" cat fish and/or ancistrus plecos (Bristlenose). Both are great algae eaters, and work without problems for most people, but both have turned to eating discus slime for some people, so you have to watch the individual that you get.

There's no ferts and all the plants seem it be growing rather well the small java fern is now medium in the matter of 3 weeks. I'll re test nitrate today even I was shocked when I saw 0. I do doubt the test kit is expired it's only new. do bristlenose eat or damage java fern? I may get a few bristlenose and a handful of snails

EDIT nerite snails are illegal to import in Australia may be hard to find them probably go with bristlenose do they eat algy off the gravel?

It's a shame about the Nerites. I agree with others that managing the algae is better, especially so because I find that plecos are just terrible at this job. You'll still be cleaning algae after getting the plecos. Mine all became spoiled to the discus food and never did any cleaning, and I've had a lot of BN plecos. The nerite snails don't have much of an alternative.

I have a bristlenose and a green phantom in my 90 gallon. I've never had any problems with them going for the discus slim coat. They pretty much keep to themselves. The phantom probably does more cleaning than the bristlenose. Though recently, the phantom has discovered the blackworms stuck to the glass. Now every morning he is up there stealing it from the discus. So he might not be into algae for most longer.

Did some research and the nerite snails will set be back about 10 to 20 bucks each. I'm not home to often enough to clean all the algy every week so am kinda needing some creature to help with it. I've managed to keep the glass and most plants clean but the gravel is getting over run

Look at aqubid. Nerites are $2 each for the olive and more for the fancy ones.

The best algae response is manual removal and less light.

Algae eaters help to an extent, but until you fix the root cause, it will be a perpetual uphill battle.
