    Default Yellow Flower Series

I was at my in-laws last night for dinner and they had a outrageous flower display on their Tabebuia tree in the front yard. I just had to take some pictures.

And with flowers you just have to include the bugs. I do not have a macro lens so did the best with what I had.

Not exactly Ed. I was invited over a couple nights prior so knew about the tree in bloom and decided to take the camera on the second invite

    Nice Pat.
Since this is the photo section, a little tip. Always be aware of your background. Move your feet/tripod to get the least distracting background possible. Use your f stop (smaller #) to blur the background, if necessary. Your first image to my eye is the best because there are no background distractions.
I have heard so many wildlife pros say they find a good background and wait for something good to happen there!
    Always take your camera

One simple way to clean up the background is to shoot against the sky. This is a blue sky, but to get the flower correctly exposed the blue gets "blown out". The white background can be fun once and a while. Seems like a lot to bother with when all you want to do is take pictures of the yellow blossoms. But your images are way better than just snap shots, so time to up your game!

Thanks Stan and Ricardo has been coaching me on that. With the bugs they simply would not cooperate. I love that first picture

Your first photo is the best one here Pat. Very nicely exposed considering the time of day. Colors are super vibrant! Is this the original format or did you crop down?

It's not cropped Ricardo. The only one I did crop was the bee pic.

great. I am glad you are keeping composition in mind in many of these shots. If you look at Stans shot, you will notice that his composition is set for the bottom left third which makes an overall pleasing composition.

I posted mine just to overstate the uncluttered background idea. No background is as about as uncluttered as you can get.
But I do try to simplify the subject as well. So to my eye, I like the isolation of the 2nd shot but it's got so much going on behind the flowers.
For fun, next time you are shooting flowers, first find one that has no blemishes then move around it to see what is behind. The further away the background stuff the easier it is to blur it.
The challenge is to see the shot before you take it and when you review the LCD screen be very critical of you background.
At f22 the background to me is to detailed, at f 7.1 the background is softer (and the flowers are a bit less detailed). A matter of taste!

Stan, I prefer the softer background also. I will also take your recommendations to heart.
