    Default Wild F2 Angels

About a month ago I decided I wanted to give wild angels a try and narrowed my wishes down to Manacapura Red shoulders. Not so easy to find though. After doing a lot of searching I found an old post on one of the angelfish forums stating that Jon (Mugwump) bred them. Just happens that I know Jon from a Discus forum so I shot him a PM asking if by chance he had any available for sale. To my surprise he replied that he had some Manacapura F2 and Sta Isabel x Rio Negro F2's pre breeders that he was growing out for his own breeder stock and he thought he could part with 3 of each. After waiting out yet another snow/ice storm they finally arrived 1 week ago. I've kept and bred a good many domestics but never wilds. These guys are sooooo different especially at feeding time. It has been fun watching them settle in. Anyway here are some pics and a video I took tonight. You can see the red starting to come out in the shoulders.

Nice Larry and best of luck with breeding them. From the looks of them, they have still have some growing to do. Should we ever meet up again I have two F1 Manacapura (not red shouldered) you could have if interested.

Thanks. I do plan on breeding them and may also use them to cross into some of my domestic stock.

As Pat said, there are two different types in the tank and I could only get three of each, so six total. The ones with the blue sheen are actually wild crosses that originated from Neil Oyama. They are a Santa Isabel x Rio Negro/ P Blue. Still look wild but do carry the domestic P Blue gene.

Your are right Pat, they do still have some growing to do. They are not quite a year old. Jon says they have just started showing some of their color but have a ways to go yet. Like wild discus, their coloration doesn't show until they have matured. Along with the red shoulders intensifying the Sta Isabel/Rio Negro will hopefully also develop some of the red spotting they are known for. Do your Manacapura show any of the spotting? Here is a domestic cross I have with the red spotting from either Manacapura or Santa Isabel.

Pat, Your angels with the red spotting are the kind I used to have.. Wish I could find more.. I never bred them but they grew out nicely... I got them from Uncle Ned's... lfs... He gets a lot of interesting fish, both domestic and wilds...

I've had these guys for about a month now. The red shoulders are starting to show more. Sometime between last night and this afternoon someone had a pretty decent spawn. Pretty sure the one guarding the eggs is the male but I have no idea who the female is. Didn't see the eggs laid and by the time I saw the clutch there were no tubes down. The male is the biggest of the crosses.
