This morning, and at four weeks old today, l decided to transfer the fry into their own grow out tank. Unfortunately only twelve made it there, as l had one jump out yesterday through the smallest of gaps in the cover glass. They were huddled together behind one of the two sponge filters in the tank, until l introduced some newly hatched brine shrimp and finely grated beef heart mix. They moved trough the entire tank grazing on the offerings, and gave me some hope that they will make it to adulthood.

They even ventured to the very front of the tank to give me an opportunity for some snaps.

I'll be maintaining daily water changes, and feed up to four times a day given the opportunity.

Thanks Dan....and its always one of the better ones. sorry if this is getting long and sometimes boring, but its a way for me to keep track of my discus journey. I often look back to see what Ive one, right or wrong, or to check on how old fish are. It a good reference point for myself.

Within a week of the 12 juveniles being transferred in to their own grow out tank, mum and dad have been at it again with a nice batch of eggs laid on the cone.
This morning i found that they had hatched, with most of them being transferred on the sponge filter as usual.

We will see how this batch goes.

Thanks Dan....Ive had multiple spawns since that last one, but they all end up being a snack. Once i get back from my trip away, i think i'll set up a dedicated little tank and try and raise them artificially. No point doing it now as they'll die for sure.

Thanks Moreetta. They are indeed cute. I starting to see good development and patterns appearing.

At 11 weeks old i'm continuing to do daily 30% water changes straight from the tap. They get up to 7 feeds a day two of which are beef heart. They take everything i put in there and i can see their tummies bulging. The biggest is around 3 inches long.
As with the last group i raised , i can see that there are a few different ones among them, some snake skin and some not. This is my favorite part, watching colors and patterns developing.

At some point i will have to sell off their aunties and uncles that i have gracing my main tank, and replacing them with this group thus fulfilling my goal of having fish that i bred from my own bred stock.
