Hmmm seems like a surprising formula based off of what is normally said here by breeders...

Do you vac up poop and left over food daily and then just do your WC on that schedule or you don't preform any maintence until your water change ?

I'm by no means an expert, but realize the importance of water changes to maintain healthy growth. The frequency of water changes may change to different people's availability, their expectations on fish growth, or breeding condition.

I do not need to vacuum left over food as there is never any, and hence the reason my feeds are little but often. All the maintenance is done during water changes. That is wiping down the glass from interior and exterior, vacuuming poop and working through sand for any dirt, and occasional flushing out the canister filter with water being emptied out, so all the rest of the time the fish are left in peace to eat, poop and be merry

As l mentioned previously though, the frequency of my water changing schedule may change as they get bigger

Thanks for your interest Phil. There's always different and better ways to do things, but l'm happy with the results so far. Looking forward to see how these guys look in another 4 weeks

you have some stunners in that group...looking forward to your next 4 update. keep up the good work...

I'm not a rebel I'm sure lots of discus keepers do same, or less with respectable results, but like l said before, the amount of water changes done by others would vary depending on their expectations. I may have to cut the group back to 12 before the next four week period. I'm glad that one of my boys has just set up a tank at his place, so at least they will have somewhere to go where l can keep a check on them.

Well another four weeks have past since my last update on my group of 18 Discus and I'm really happy with their progress.

The smallest is at approx' 3 1/2 inches with the biggest at around 4 1/4 inches. (That's overall length including fins.)

I don't think l mentioned in my other posts that this group hatched on the 30th of December 2015, which makes them approx' 6 month old now.

I have stuck with my feeding and water change schedule, but sometimes find myself doing a 30% water change every 3 days instead of 4 to 5 day...but not often at all.

I thought that l would have thinned the group down to 12 at this stage but l don't think that they are overcrowded yet. I'm not looking forward to unloading any of them, and not sure at this stage which ones will go. Hope that gets easier down the track.

Check out the short 1 minute video clip taken with the use of my Samsung s5 phone.

.....Have l mentioned how much l love watching these guys?

Going great mate, interesting about the water changes, similar to a German breeder that has stonker fish!

Thanks Rex. That's exactly what I'm aiming for...stonker fish

Thanks Kyla. With the tank light on and the room lights off l am able to get those photos without glare, and the fish do look bright.
This is how they look with the lights off during the day... a bit different

Thanks Keith. I think the best part about starting with juvenile fish is watching their progress and development, knowing that you have some control over the outcome.

I have a question...l notice the pattern and color had started from the edges of the fish and as they get older heading towards the center of the body...Is that normal for these spotted snake skins?

I'm getting close on having to remove some discus from this tank. I'm thinking of removing 6 of them leaving 12. Like l mentioned before its going to be difficult for me to pick 6 and won't be necessarily by size. Any advice on which to remove would be greatly appreciated at this stage. I notice some of them have a larger dip under their chin than others. Would this be an indication of lack of roundness as they get older?
I will take out another 4 down the track leaving 8 fish for the long haul.
