Default Discus babies dying with blood clot in the head

    Hi All,

Need help with this problem I'm facing.

I have some 50 discus babies approx 1" in size housed in a 55 gallon bare bottom.

Since a week I have started to loose 1-2 babies everyday.

What unusual is that they are fine an hour before then they are flat on the bottom. Once dead their head and stomach turn red morr like a blood clot and eye popped.

I have tried epsom jus about 20 for about 50 literes of water.

My water change regime is approx 75-80% everyday.

They are fed on bhm approx 4 times a day.

They all seem to eat well and come begging for food.

Have not added and new tank mates.

The temp is approx 32 , pH is around 6.5, TDS is around 200 ppm.

Any help with identifying wat can be done. I'm not sure wat is even wrong.

I have attached pics for reference.

Are these the same fry from your past post in Dec/Jan.?

I would start by dropping the temp. to 28
Are you aging the water you change that was not mentioned previously?

    Hi Ralph,

Yes they are from the same batch.. I did treat them with Kanamycin and they seem to have recovered.

I could post the pic from my phone.. However will try and post the same from my laptop.

Yeah the water is aged for 22-24 hours...

    Hello Sheldon,

Knowing now that this is the same batch from late Dec 2014 and fry are still 1" size...I would just cull this batch and start over. There immune system has basically retired to be able to fight anything off.
Under proper water conditions and healthy fish from the start.. you would have some grown out to 3"-4" at this stage.
