    Question Mixing Acrylic and Glass

Can you use silicone to attach acrylic baffles to the sides of a glass aquarium. I plan on building a wet-dry sump and using acrylic for the baffles. I do stain glass, but would really like to use acrylic for the main baffle walls. (I like to save my fingers).

I have seen many people do this. What you don't want to do is use silicone to attach acrylic baffles in an acrylic tank. You will be fine though.

One thing I will mention is that acrylic baffles expand over time because of the water. Due to this, they recommend that you cut the acrylic pieces a little shorter because if you cut them right up to the tank wall, they will expand and can potentially break your tank.

Since you have a glass sump, my recommendation is actually to go with glass baffles if you can get them. They are actually cheaper than acrylic from my experience.

Thanks -- cutting the glass is no problem. I have the tools for my stain glass projects, but just trying to save my fingers. Ouch.
