Busy week.... Started a new job

Well as of last Friday I no longer work for the NRCS/USDA as I landed a position as an admin assistant with the VA in Walla Walla, WA (the city so nice they named it twice).

So I am working in the specialized sterilization unit where they clean and sterilize reusable medical equipment (i.e. the scopes used on an endoscopy).

The position pays the same as my last job, but is a better fit for me. I did extend my commute by 30 minutes each way, but with the better atmosphere and the fact that there are more opportunities for a position that offers higher pay I felt it was worth it.

I have put in for a position of a bit lower pay that is right here in town (2.5 miles from my house) as the commute time and the fact that I would be paying very little in fuel and vehicle maintenance (and my insurance would go down a bit) makes that a good decision too.

Congrats on the new job Dave! I know all about commute. I travel 30 miles a day to work and those 30 miles have turned in to 2hr stints for me on our lovely Los Angeles parking lots. Sorry, did I say parking lots? I meant freeways.

Thanks Pat and Ricardo. I do have an application in for a position here in town with the VA (a small clinic) that is a pay cut, but would be a pay raise due to not having to commute at all (location is 3 miles from my house) so I would gain back three hours of time and not have to spend the money I do on fuel, vehicle maintenance, and vehicle repairs.

I have 21 years as a federal employee so I will be eligible for retirement in a few years.
