Off Camara flash help needed

Got myself all confused

Purchased a TTL flash unit Neewer VK750 11, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Neewer%C2%AE...=neewer+Vk+750

I would like to use this flash off the camara using TTL mode, this is were my confusion starts, if I use the built in flash of my Nikon D5500 to trigger the Vk 750 unit, i believe the second flash will not work in TTL mode.

I have read I need to purchase a flash trigger that supports TTL mode, my confusion is do I need to have one trigger/transmitter on the camara, and the VK750 attached to a second unit, or will the VK750 flash work correctly using TLL without being attached to trigger/transitter.

I would play with it in Slave mode and see what happens before buying a trigger.
