I do not really care gor the classification.
The thing that matters to me is the discus to turn out red and keep the heckel bar. Time will tell the truth... I will try to keep the thread updated.
I'm sure it will develop into a very nice fish, especially once it begins to breed. I would like to have a nice group of them myself.

Sadly, I have no idea of the age. I bought it from the only Tony Tan's discus supplier here in Greece and the size that I bought him was 2-3 inches without the tail (SL). No it is about 3,5 inches I think, again without the tail.

Based on the shape, it looks like an F1. The Heckel bar may disappear in subsequent generations, but I expect that this fish will keep its bar.

Thanks for your reply Willie. Can you tell me a bit more about the correlation between shape and the fact that it is F1?

As the name that Tony Tan supplier gave you, I do really believe this fish is a cross between two wild fish. One male heckel with a female alenquer with thick ICA central bar

I would be really happy if your statement is true. Hope to see some more red color the next months. I will keep this thread updated!

I'm definitely no expert but don't think it's a Red Ica. Hell, could be, but a "Red Ica" that I had back in the mid 90's was one hell of a wild yet very different looking. I really wish I had a picture. I think Bernd Degen (sp?) had a very similar pic of the one I had (wild that was a little more "high bodied" than normal, all brown, pronounced center bar). Unfortunately at that time, I did not quarantine that discus and ended up wiping out my entire wild discus tank when I just "threw him in".

Again, mine may not have been a Red Ica but it was sold as such (which now looking at my entire post means nothing since who knows where it came from... at that time my source was accurate enough to say "Heckel, Brown, Blue, or Green" but maybe not so much "Red Ica").

Regardless, I love the HECK out of the discus you have! Looks fantastic!

As have I! It's on my travel bucket list.

Would be awesome if that fish filled out it's body with a deep velvet red with the center bar and halo. Heck even a nice brown might look good. Is this the only one they had?

Hope to see you here too..! Greece has really beautiful places..

About the fish, they had also one more Red Ica heckel and four heckel turquoise.. The owner of the shop forced me to take this one because for the first time Tan send him Ica heckel and not brown. Nevertheless, it's a wonderful (and my favourite) fish. I will soon post some new pics.

Very similar to a few places in Mexico along the Sea of Cortez. Lovely!

That is a very different looking Discus. You can see that the halo stops at the pronounced middle bar as well.
