I now have a confirmed pair at age 8-9 months! A lot of water changes and food. This pair spawned in my 90g grow out tank and I moved the cone and pair to a 29g tank that I set up in anticipation. They were shaking and displaying but I did not expect this at such a young age! They immediately started fanning and caring for the spawn as if I hadn't moved them. They are still juvies! Hopefully they will attach, I will post follow up pictures. Their colors are stunning. The stripes are bright cardinal red. Thanks Chicago Discus! TedDSC07090.jpgDSC07093.jpg

Oh WOW! They are so gorgeous and so fertile! Not unexpected though, I had other customers telling me that their Vertical Strip Tigers also spawned. That was just an amazingly fertile batch, and they matured very quickly. They are only about 9 months old. Can't wait to see the fry!

So all the fry were dead at the bottom of the tank near the cone this morning. I'm pretty sure it was my fault, the tank I moved them to wasn't properly set up and cycled. My water is PH 6.8-7 with TDS of 60ppm. I'm going to put a sponge from another tank in there next time. I have 3 questions for all you knowledgable discus breeders.

    1) Do I continue 50% water changes while the eggs/fry develop?

    2) Do I continue to feed the parents as much as I normally would?

    3) Does a dark foam sponge filter act as an attractant to the fry possibly preventing them from attaching to the parents?

I know I will eventually get it right, this happens a lot from reading other posts. Ted

    Yes

    Yes

Yes and No. Many report that this happens and they cover the filter with white cheese cloth. Others claim that this is pointless as the fry will eventually find the parents. You will have to choose which advice you would like to follow.

we do 100% water change using the flushing method with aged water.

    2) Do I continue to feed the parents as much as I normally would?

yes as long as your not feeding to much. we have stopped feeding them after the eggs hatch for a few days just to keep the water clean both ways work.

    3) Does a dark foam sponge filter act as an attractant to the fry possibly preventing them from attaching to the parents?

no, thats a myth in my book. Fry staying on the bottom and not free swimming is usually young parents, week fry or to much movement in the water

    Hope this helps........Josie
