    Default Piranhas

Anyone keep Piranhas? I saw some Piranhas on YouTube. I like their shinny red belly. Their body shape like discus. Can they be kept with disus? Like a really small baby piranha with a group of large adult discus?

As far as water quality compatibility.....yes.

As far as personality compatibility.....no (discus could be lunch)

As far as legal issues.....depends on where you live and the laws in your state.

Yeah, it's not worth the risk. But it is fun to keep a tank of predatory fish for a change.

The Piranhas I have seen are actually boring and usually timid unless feeding... Sure it is fun to watch a pack destroy something, but they make a total mess and then they huddle up... They aren't like a free swimming fish and to me are rather dull and boring but thats just my own opinion...

Ive seen them in aquariums and a friend a while back had about ten and those were my impressions...

That's what piranhas do,no action unless food, conserve energy.

I have been watching river monster on animal planet. That is where the idea of getting a tank of monster fish from. I know it's pretty silly.

I used to have a school of them. They have great personalities if you watch them enough and as adult the timidness goes away. Got them at about an inch and once they started breeding it was time to say so long. Went from a 40b planted to a 55, 75, then a 240.

A fellow hobbyist closeby me who is in breeding of African Cichlids culls with a pair of Piranhas.

I saw them a really small size, and even in that size is necessary to pack them individual because too dangerous.

If your state doesn't get cold enough to kill warm water fish, then they are most likely illegal to own.
