    Default Nikon d7200

Looking to get a camera and I have found good deals on the d7200 with a AF-S DX 18-55mm VRII and a 55-300mm VR NIKKOR zoom lense. I have watched several reviews on YouTube and it looks like a nice camera that I won't grow out of. Just looking for some of your guys feedback. $1,449 for the package with 2 batteries.

Devon, I have the D7000 and love it. The D7200 should be just as nice. I would suggest during independent research on the two lens. I decided to not buy the body/len package and bought the body and started with the Nikon AF-S 35mm F1.8 DX http://www.digitalrev.com/product/ni...FjMaArV_8P8HAQ which is a sweet little lens and does not set you back cash wise.

I have the 18-55mm lens on mine, a good all around lens but its too slow for fish pictures & I'm probably going to get the lens Pat has mentioned.

The 18-55mm VRII appears to be very good lens http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/18-55mm-vr-ii.htm and retails for about $250. The 55-300mm VR NIKKOR zoom is not bad http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/55-300mm.htm but has a slow focus. Retails for $250-350.

Just my .02 but with a $1500 budget, I would not spend the bulk of the budget on the camera body. Decide whether you need the extra buffer of the 7200. D7000 and D7100 can be had for a good deal. The 18-55 VRII is a good lens but to me, it just add another lens that you may not use to the bag further down. I like the lens Pat recommended Nikon AF-S 35mm F1.8. You may want to pick the 70-300mm AF-S as well. I think Pat has that lens as well (I picked one up from Nikon outlet for about $300).

Over the years, I just learned that it's never worth it to spend the bulk of the money on the latest body. I think if you asked most people, the bulk of the money they spent in their camera bag is in the 2-3 lens.

I do more video recording with my 7100 now and find the 18-200mm to be a decent lens to carry around.

Devon, you can pickup the D7000 for about $500 I believe. Ken Rockwell suggests if you have a D7000 it is not worth to upgrade to the D7100, D7200 etc but he does speak highly of the D7200 http://www.kenrockwell.com/.

This is all great info. I have some time before i buy so I will research more. I have under stood the basics about the camera body and the features and technical settings, its the lenses that i have not learned about yet. I love you tube I can find everything about photography and looks like I will have to watch more about lens and the features of each. I would like a all around lens and a long distance lens.

Here is a refurbished D7200 by Nikon, so a USA body and Nikon warranty: https://www.nikonusa.com/en/nikon-pr...furbished.html

This is $999 so leaves you with $500 for lens(es).

https://www.nikonusa.com/en/nikon-pr...furbished.html A great walk around lens.

I have never had an issue when buying refurbished from Nikon. More expensive than used but peace of mind that it has been Nikon cleared and USA item.

I think looking at MP, ISO, FPS the D7200 is a pretty good upgrade from the D7000. However other than ISO range not to much difference between D7100 and D7200.

From my reading, the biggest benefit the 7200 got from the 7100 was the buffer size. I know the 7200 got built-in Wi-Fi but the 7100 can do it with an adapter.

I've gotten refurbished fro Nikon before. The only thing I didn't like about the lens I got from them was lack of the original box.

I would agree about not chasing camera bodies, but it really comes down to what you want on one vs the other. Many times the advances just aren't there to warrant the price and are just more luxury items than anything but a few generations on and the newest camera body might be the way to go. The older bodies will still shoot just as good as they once did though so they are nothing to pass over. I would agree a refurb from Nikon (or any other brand) is a good way to get a good camera for cheaper than new price. I've been told that Canon refurbs are sometimes even store display models that are sent back to Canon and then go through the whole refurb process. Basically a brand new camera for sale at refurb prices. I suspect Nikon does the exact same.

Your lens collection will always be more important long term than the body IMO. Your lenses will move with you body to body.
