I highly doubt they're just playing
I just hope your Angels are not bigger than the Discus, or else you should be concerned.

I put an angel fish with my discus and he began to hassle them after 2-3 days. I put the little bugger in with my arowana thinking that would be a quick death for him. He's still there to this day. Angels are tougher than you think.
My step dad has 4 angels in a 125 with an oscar, jack dempsey, 4 frontosa and a jewel cichlid. If they can handle themselves with those types of fish they are not good discus tankmates. Some might work but its a risky venture that failed for me.
I guess I've been lucky for the past 15 years.

you just need to start the angels with the discus when the angels are young. I've kept mine like that since I started. But if you put a big angel in with younger discus, you are asking for trouble.

I am going to try again with smaller Angels. I would like to keep a few Pinoy with my discus eventually. I just need to find some small ones. Glad to hear this can work. I think the biggest challenge will be finding them in Alberta. I may have to order from across the border.
We've never had any problems keeping angels with discus, but as already mentioned, it's best to start them all when they are small. One issue you need to watch for is at feeding time. Angels are such aggressive eaters, that they can actually out-eat, or out-compete the discus for the available food. You have to make sure that the discus are getting enough to eat without over feeding your tank.
I have one angel fish with my 6 discus group and he is very calm and not disturbing the discus, i added him when he was very small.
2 angels in my 90 gallon, with 6 discus. no problems. They pick on each other, but not the discus or tetras.
I also keep my first group of discus with Philippine Blue and Manacapuru angels.only 4 discus and about 6 large and about 20 small angels.no issues for a year.but feed angels then feed discus differant area
