    Default Uatuma Angelfish from John

I was curious about these Uatuma River angelfish that John listed on his website stocklist, so I emailed him to request a photo. Here's the photo he sent (and we all know that his photos DRASTICALLY underrepresent the quality of his fish):

And here's what they look like in a tank with a couple of my domestic veils after only 3 days:

They are showing remarkable color; red is coming through in their fins, and they have brilliant blue gill plates and ventral fins. He charged $180 for SIX of these angels. Shipping is always more than reasonable with John, AND he sent an extra. Yes, an extra.......angelfish. NOBODY sends an extra angel or discus, ever. An extra tetra or guppy? Sure. But John sent me seven of these gorgeous wild angelfish for less than $230, shipped. You're not going to beat that. I couldn't be happier, and if you're on the fence about trying wild angelfish that aren't altums, well I was too, and I think these are going to be every bit as beautiful as altums. Plus, they are still alive, eating, and thriving. Highest praise, as always. And thank you, John!

Oh and those pics crack me up in a way... Does he do that so you are just extra blown away when you get them? Lol...

I mean they look nice in his pics but in yours after some time settling they are just like WHOA!

Thanks, fellas. Yep, they are very large. The domestic angels in the tank with them were "pre-breeder" size, so the wilds are bigger than any coin I can think of......a couple of inches of body on most of them.

Very nice! Well said about John's pictures. I believe what you've got there are pterophyllum leopodi. The bright blue operculum gives them away.

^ Agreed. They look like P. leopoldi to me. The elongated shape and tear-drop marking are also diagnostic features.

Yup, definitely! And I never thought I would like anything other than altums, but I am absolutely enchanted by these things!

They look great and taking pics of fish in tanks can be tricky
