    Default Bred by Exhibitor Class

NADA Special Class - Bred by Exhibitor-2016

One of the most interesting classes NADA offers is the “Bred By Exhibitor” class. In this class the only fish that are eligible are those fish that are specifically bred and raised by the hobbyist that is showing the fish. This class is only open to the Hobbyist, and was created to encourage people to breed and raise their own discus as it is our belief that doing so strengthens the hobby in several different ways. It allows the individual to compete against other hobbyist (and at the same time the large fish farms) and a trophy will be awarded to the individual who wins this class, separate from the other aforementioned class’s. A fish that is entered into this class, must also be entered into anyone of the 8 other classes, and will be judged not only in that class, but also be judged separately against all other “Bred by Exhibitors” entries only. It is possible for a bred by exhibitor entry to not only win the Bred by class, but also win/place/show in the class in which it is entered (thick/thin/solid/etc). NADA strongly encourages participation in this class by anyone that breeds their own Discus!

That was the winner. He is not quite as long as he appears in the picture. Matt has an incredibly difficult job to take pictures of everything and then get them in the trophy presentation. I am really glad I do not have hie job.

This will be the third Show that we have had this class. The first time was the Show in Atlanta in 2102 and we only had a few entrants but the idea was well received. The Show in Austin in 2014 had even more entries. We are now a little over two years away from the Show in 2018 and if I can get my fish room up and running in the next several months I will have time to work toward having an entry. Does this plant an seed in anyone else's brain? So how do you groom a discus to be in a Show? One of my favorite speakers and discus authors has a great read about this. Check out Dick Au's book "Trophy Discus". Oh, and did I forget to mention that Dick will be one of our speakers at this years Show in Chicago? Not to late to register and have a chance to talk with him in person. You can also order his books when you make your Show reservation.

John we'll have enough cameras there this year between all of the photo nuts, we'll make sure to put one in your hands It's a stressful job, especially with little time between judging and banquet (I basically work until we sit down to eat lol) but someone has to do it, and I kind of enjoy it. Was a very nice fish this past NADA. Always exciting to see this class, good to see quality fish being bred here in North America.

Matt you do a great job and I would hate to have it...LOL. It is one of the issues with putting on a show that most people never realize. The clock is always ticking and deadlines have to be met...LOL. It would be nice is the fish would cooperate but of course they never do.

I just spoke with the most wonderful representative from Alsaska Airlines, and have my fish booked as "animals in the hold" round trip. I'm bringing fish to NADA! What fun.
