    Default QT for LFS tankmates

Do you deworm of treat apparently health tank mates in initial quarantine or just observe them and then throw them in with the discus?

Thanks for the link, I think I had read that page before but forgotten about it. Would this procedure be appropriate for Rummynose and Cardinal Tetras? those are the fish im planning to add to my discus.

I quarantine my tetras before they go into the discus tank. I doubt that they carry any discus pathogens, but a couple of weeks don't hurt. I also feed them bbs in a smaller tank to fatten them up. Most of the tetras you get are in half starved condition.

What is meant by taking a cull from one tank to another? As suggested in the quarantine process?

(At the end of six weeks I take a cull from my other tanks and add it to the quarantine tank. This tells me if the new fish are safe to mix with mine, and tells me if mine are safe to mix with them. )

Is this a sacrificial fish transferred to the quarantine tank?

Yes. Also referred to as a Hero fish. If he survives, he's the hero.

The cull or hero fish. Is this any fish from the tank, or specifically a Discus? How long do you wait to see if they are compatible? Another 6 weeks or so? Ty.

If you have ditter fish in quarantine then a Discus from your main tank goes in the tank with ditter fish and if you have Discus in quarantine then a Discus from quarantine tank goes in the main tank.Culls (in case you have one) or the least liked Discus are chosen, if no problems arise in a week to 2 weeks then everything is good to go.
