    Default What to do next?

So I am on day 11 with my fry and they are starting not to look like wigglers anymore. I have read through the timeline and just looking for some clarification on what to do next. I have a BBS hatchery and both parents are still in with the fry. I tried some frozen BBS and they didn't seem interested at this point. This is my first time and I have never got this far, really don't want to lose any progress made or make a tragic mistake.

Sounds like it is time to start the hatchery. When offering BBS at first introduce small amounts by squirting some over the parents and allow the BBS to float down to the fry. I like to use a syringe with a bit of rigid tubing attached to the syringe with a bit of airline tubing. You can use the syringe to suck up any amount of BBS. It will take the fry a few days to go after the BBS.

I usually started giving BBS 3 days after free swimming. Some parents will start killing the fry when it gets irritated. So it's better to start them early and move the parents after 3rd week.

Okay the fry look like discus now, they show a little hew of color and are eating CBW and CBS one time at 6:30am and then again at 6:30 pm. I know they should eat more but i'm just not home, sometime I run home on lunch and feed them when I can. Any ideas? And also, They are still being raised in the 20g tote ran off of the main 240g system (connected to the sump) Should I not do this and get them their own tank. I do change 100g 3 times a week. I am open to suggestions.

Hi Devon, their own tank sounds like a great idea about now. How does a 40 breeder sound.

I was thinking about that, You think if I full it up to the 30g mark and use a aqua clear filter or just 2 sponge filters and a little power head or bubbler? What about wc? and feeding?

I agree with Pat, getting a tank ready is a good idea. I just use sponge filters. I would keep up the water changes and I think your feeding schedule is alright. Mine get fed twice a day, sometimes a third.

You might want to paint the bottom and perhaps back and sides so the fry feel safe. Two sponge filters is perfect and you don't really want the current of an AquaClear. With fry you would be doing at least one 100% water change a day with tank wipe-downs.

How old are the fry and what are they eating now? Feed at least twice a day and do the water change after the night feeding.

I looked back in the thread and see the fry are about 3.5 weeks of age so guessing you are still feeding BBS? Have you considered what you are going transition them too after BBS? They can eat FD black worms now if you stick a cube on the side of the glass.

Pat, I have been shaving frozen brine shrimp and chopped blackworms I will try the cubes and see if they pick at them. I will paint the sides and bottom and stick to just sponge filters. So 30g 100% each day should be fine?
