Some Snakeskin Discus are marked with blue spots against a red background.
I purchased this fish back in April, from kenny, as a BSS x Blue Scorpion. I have very much enjoyed watching this fish grow and develop color and pattern. As he matures I see much more red in the pattern. I'm curious if the SS strain is red based and this is the reason or is it possibly the bio pigment FDBW
I'm sure some of it is lighting but I believe red LED would make reds standout

there are both Red Snakeskin and Blue Snakeskin. If you are feeding a bio-pigment based food then yes the food will have an effect on the fish. It will help it put down more red based pigment.
For me and this is my opinion only. I am more of a purist. For me it seems that lineage was the first step to bubble eye.type of manipulation like Chinese gold fish. Now just look at all the bubble gum colors. We just had a discussion about the bat wing angelfin type now those that like and keep them no problems that is their choice like it is mine to not.
No offense meant to anyone.
Snakeskin is not a strain. It's a mutation that effects the number of bars that a discus has, and can added to nearly every strain.

I don't know the background but that's a sweet looking fish and you have done an amazing job growing it !!
Novice my butt lol
You bought discus from a quality supplier And based on that progression alone that you just showed I think you are well on your way keep up the good work.
Thanks Philly. I am pretty happy so far. Starting with quality stock was a very important choice
Yep, exactly. Nothing to do with base color at all!
Yeah, totally agree.
I think once a discus is removed from the wild, there is almost no chance that its descendants will ever make it back there. This is just a hobby for fun and there are no rules.
