    Default Refugium advice

I am building a diy acrylic refugium for a future 180 gallon discus tank. I plan to have just enough sand in the bottom of my tank to cover and a large piece of drift wood In the tank.

My plan is to build the sump similar to the ecosystems refugiums. Filter sock, through some type of bio balls within the baffles, into the mm refugium, through foam and lastly through a high end uv sterilizer.

    My questions are as follows.

    1. Do I need more than one sump sock? And for what reason?

    2. Will that system be enough filtration for 10-12 adult discus fish?

My concern is that I don't have enough bio media in the sump prior to the plants and that 2 socks will cause a build up on excess nutrients.

    Any advice welcome!

I am not sure if I understood your last paragraph about the build up. But I can tell you that I have to change my filter sock every 3-4 days or water overflow it. They are 200 um.

I purchased 2 100um filter socks. What would be the advantage of using both in the sump at one time? Or would that space be better suited for more bio media? That's what's in trying to find out. So 2 socks or 1 sock and bio balls?
