I have never seen that one either. I took my chance on this one just try try it since it was so inexpensive and it has been awesome. I figured if it didn't work I would spend more money. But this one is very accurate. I used several different methods to check it (medical thermometer, cooking thermometer, ect...) I have even dropped it several times . I also asked the guy at our local reef specialty store and he likes them as well. I know you can get them that run over $100 bucks but for what I need this one is great.

I have an etekcity infrared thermometer and I love it. It has been accurate and functional for 4 years. Mine is one of the $15 black and yellow models. Great value

I got one off Craig's List for $10. It works fine, although I've never checked its accuracy. But then, discus don't care of 0.1 degree differences anyway.

I have the etekcity one or similar from amazon, but I also bought the more expensive Milwaukee brand too. It reads 2-3 degrees higher than the cheaper one. I need to find a good calibration method.

You can try checking it with an ice bath...

How are you using this in water changes, they reflect off of shiny surfaces?
