Default 220 gal Tank with Sump

30 years in the hobby... 6 years with Discus... Moving to a new place which deserves a bigger tank...

So far, here is my project:
    WhatsApp Image 2016-09-08 at 09.39.59.jpegWhatsApp Image 2016-09-08 at 09.39.37.jpeg

    It will have 158cm x 70cm x 75 cm (62"x27"x29") - +800l (220gal), with a Bean Animal overflow and a Sump with 110cmx41cmx55cm (43"x16"x21") - 248l (65gal).

I also plan to add a refugium (the blue box) to work as Nitrate filter (plants and more plants).

The stand was delivered last week, the guy that did it replaced the materials for stainless steel... I think the max load is something near to 86 tonnes!!!!

I've just ordered the tank... Will be home in 30 days or so.

I'm still wondering on the sections of the sump... Given that I'm migrating from Canisters to Sump, this will be a novelty for me... So doing a lot of research here and in other forums as well.

BTW, the idea is to have my current stock loaded in the tank (4 discus, 3 plecos, 4 corys and dozen of tetras)... plus 5 more Discus.

Few to no plants in the tank, my current inspiration is the tank form Aquarium Design Group with the Blue Discus, I think they named it as a Tribute to Heiko (or something like this).

    Best,
    Carlos

Not an expert but I believe in a tank that large your discus would feel much safer with more than 9. I've had in mind my next setup as a 210 with sump with something like 18 discus

Work eventually take me away from home for some time and I need something that can endure a week or two with little to no maintenance. IMHO, the way to be on the safe side under such circunstance is to keep a relative low bioload. Let's see how the tank evolves and it might be hosting more than the 9 initially planned.
    Thanks.

that size tank, with those few fish. i'd be tempted to try it without any filtration if I was going planted.

    I can understand that.

Hopefully some of the experts will chime in with good advice for you.

I've always read and been told that too few fish in a large tank can cause the discus to be skittish and/or stressed. We all know where stressed fish lead.

Maybe 9 large adults would feel comfortable?

Good luck on your tank look forward to seeing it. I've been eyeballing a 210

Thanks Jack, sounds possible with very frequent water changes.

Thanks Ryan, I will be tempted to get more fish just with your argument.

Just took a look at the two inspirational landscapes and they have 9 and 10 discus in each. Here are the pics... Both are from Aquarium Design Group

Here is the stand, fixed to the floor and siliconed to the wall to prevent humidity getting between the stand and the wall.
