Default Hello from Upstate New York

My name is Chino and starting to plan my first ever discus tank. I currently run an 18 tank fishroom that consist of mainly dwarf cichlids. Discus have always been a goal of mine to keep and breed and after getting the ok from the wifey to add another display tank in the house I'm going for it. Hope to learn a lot and be successful as many of you are.

Welcome to the Forum Chino! Nice to see more New Yorkers! Where Upstate are you?

I am on Long Island. Happy to help with any questions you may have. I would suggest reading all of the stickies here in the beginners section and watching Al Sabeta's video on discus keeping. He is the owner of this forum and his video is a great intro.

The search bar will become your best friend. Many, if not most questions have been asked here numerous times in various ways. If you search your questions you will come up with many pieces of advice. If you can't find what you need simply create a post and let us help you!

Tell us about what you are thinking right now? Tank size, type of discus desired, water change regiment, etc.

Lastly, this forum has many sponsors that carry a variety of discus in all sizes and strains, I highly recommend utilizing a sponsor to buy your discus from. STAY AWAY FROM THE LFS~! IMO

I live near Saratoga Springs, NY.

So I have a 60 gallon high that I want to set up. I love the snakeskin varieties that are out there. My goal is to have a breeding pair. I would prefer to get 6 juvies and gambling that I will get a pair out of it, but not sure if I have enough space to grow them out big enough to pair up. I already have an RO system with 50 gallon holding tank. Doing daily, bi-daily or weekly water changes won't be an issue. Being that its going to be a display tank and from what I have read the general consensus is to do a bare bottom, I need to find some ideas on bare bottom tanks that look pleasing to the eye. I'm thinking something like this http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/at...1&d=1319396226 with some terra cotta cones on each side.
