So Pat? Is it true that they slow down in the growing department once they start to breed? I did read something along those lines on here somewhere but unable to find anymore information on the topic.....Might be worth starting a new thread on this one.

It is my understanding Joe that it is the rearing of the fry which really retards growth.

Thanks Jacklyn, feel like I have my own little discus soap opera. I really like the new lover boy but think he is a bit overwhelmed with all the attention. I am pretty sure the jealous one is a female and she is definitely a favorite.

I would also include the egg production. I took my female away from the male as she just stopped growing but yet she was laying eggs every week to 2 weeks. Sometimes this would happen just days apart. She had been doing this for the better part of two years laying eggs 4-6 times a month.

She has started to grow a little in the last 3 months. she is by herself in a 20gal. We'll see where it goes for the next 6mo.

Interesting and how old is this fish? Two plus year old? But then my wilds grow well into their third year.

I bought her at LFS with 7 others all just a bit bigger than a silver dollar I have had her 2yrs. My other males from the same batch are 6-7 inches long guessing I have not actually measured. My other pair has the biggest male Red/Turk about 7" with a my other female who has not laid nearly as much and is much bigger. Probably she is 5-6" not nearly as thick as her mate. I wish I had a way of sharing pictures here but it is not in the cards. Both of these pairs are in two 75gal tanks which I do 50-75% daily mostly but sometimes life gets in the way and its every other day. In one 75 I have a trio 2males the red-turk and a blue snakeskin with the red-turk female they get along very well never any squabbles. So I have Five discus in two 75gal tanks. The female is now in my hospital tank to see how much more she grows.
