The natural diet of discus would be small worms, mollusks, and crustaceans, along with small insect and mosquito larvae, small amphibian larvae and vegetation.
What do Discus fry eat in the wild? Does anybody know? They can't all eat baby brine shrimp or Australian freeze dried black worms.

"There are no secrets to success; don’t waste time looking for them. Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty to those for whom you work, and persistence. You must be ready for opportunity when it comes"
In the wild you eat what you can find and will sustain you. In the wild they have to search to find food.

Fair question!
But some of the the answers a little inconsiderate.

Discus spawn during the rainy season when the rivers overflow their banks and cover open ground. An amazing amount of food becomes available during this time versus the dry season when discus are limited to the streams.

At my age, everything is irritating.
They will eat pretty much anything they can find that they can fit in their mouth. Bear in mind, in the wild, if a pair lays 200 eggs, they are doing good if a dozen survive. Just because they are in their natural habitat, doesn't mean it's ideal (mother nature is a B**ch) it's one of the things we can improve in captivity, with great success. Also, breeding season correlates with rainy/flood season, this is a time of plenty (relatively speaking) when the rivers run over their beds into the flood plains full of vegetation. Ergo, it's not just breeding season for discus, but all kinds of critters big and small.
