    Default New driftwood

For those of you that saw my post I was inspired by Adrian@Outllook,com and his gorgeous wood to make a change from my tiny Mopani pile. Here is a link to his post of his beautiful tank. http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showth...Discus-arrived

I found a piece on Ebay and had boiled the heck out of it and soaked it for months. I still had to weigh it down with the Mopani but it is in. I thought it was cool with the swim throughs. Now I think it may be to geometric. Here it is...before and after.

I still love the natural curves of Kenny's wood but it is nice to change things up.

Note before anyone jumps on me for overstocking- the small blue in the back is a reflection in the glass of my Blue Diamond.

Thanks Phil- you are naughty...do not even give me any ideas about more. Every time Kenny posts his incoming I pick out my favorites out of every barrel...it is a sad addiction.

What are you looking for Phil? More of the tank or fish close ups?

Okay Phil, I will see what I can do for you. I took the new wood back out because I had a weird ammonia spike even though I do big water changes every day. I thought maybe that it was rotting inside or something. It is not though. I tested the barrel I was soaking it in and it is fine. It is crumbling a bit though so I am going to wire brush it and see if I can put it back in but I am not willing to risk the health of the fish if it is going to add organic matter into the tank. As far as the spike goes I have no idea what happened. It was one time and the last 3 tests have been back to zero.

I do have something interesting planned to post- I may get to it today. Hint...the college kid is home...

Do you have anything growing off the wood? Do you have any plecos in the tank to feed off any growth or the wood itself? I am always iffy with wood, I have had good experiences and bad. recently I spent a nice $ on some wood and I wasnt that happy with it, was growing stuff and I feel effecting my water, even when I soaked it for a month in hot water... was annoying.

Nothing was growing on it. It really wasn't in there long enough for that to happen. No plecos. I thought of getting some but heard stories of them taking a liking to Discus slime. Another chance I wasn't willing to take. The jury is still out on whether or not it goes back in. I need to recover from the last mess of doing 2 water changes a day until I got back to zero ammonia.

The project is working...you will love it! Coming soon.
