    Default fishmeal vs beefheart?

I live in the Cebu Philippines and having a hard time finding beefheart. It is easy for me to get fish meal and it only costs me 61 cents a pound. Can it replace beefheart directly?

What is the protein content of the fish meal. It must be high. If it is, you'll have to mix it so that it holds together so they can eat it. Geletin perhaps.

I don't see why not. Beef heart is a good staple food. So is 99% fat free ground turkey. I can't see that fish meal wouldn't be as good as a staple diet.

Fishmeal is fine but messy...its also something that the nutrition can very depending on the source and processing. I think you would be better off with frsh seafood as an ingredient if you have ready access to it. Turkey is a good option as well...or a combination of both.

Fresh tilapia is a easy source here. It runs around 1.10 pound. So I will try a mixtures of fishmeal & tilapia and see what I like.

You can use 95% lean ground beef.

agreed fish meal could be scales, skin and other junk. unless it sold as Whole Fish meal I'd be leery.

I'm assuming I could use Tilapia as a main stable for beef heart replacement?

Fish meal contains very high levels of oil. Whole fish is extruded through a screw press and oil is extracted mechanically via a hammer mill. However, there's a still significant portion of oil left. I think it would foul your tank.

I've had good results with ground pollack, tilapia, etc. Given a choice, my discus prefer ground beef.
