ideas for a sock diffuser?

i cut these gill slots but the pressure of the water flow is making them self seal. any ideas on what kind of cuts i can put in this sock to diffuse the flow but not let it churn the water like it did with just the pipe?

it will be overflowing the top of sock by tomorrow i'm sure.


i'm trying to make this first chamber have less turbulence the the water lettuces stay afloat. i don't need the sock to be used for filtering.

John at JEHMCO.COM sells filter bags made out of nylon mesh. I would think these may work better for you.
