Default 30 degrees, is it too high?

Seller I buy my discus from keeps them all at 30 degrees, as a result my tank is also set at 30 degrees, but I see a lot of posts on here where they are kept around the 28 degrees mark.
I'm also aware that up at 30 the filter bacteria are teetering on the edge so I'm wondering if I should gradually pull the temp down to 28.
I use an stc1000 so can control how quickly the temp is dropped

    Thanks

Oh man, you're making the stupid American use math. I think 30c is about 86f and 28c is about 82f. Shippers and wholesalers generally keep temps high so the metabolic rates stay high while treating an quarantining fish. 28 is perfect for your healthy home system. You can do .33 Celsius a day safely.

A couple of my STC1000 controllers don't do a very good job of measuring temperature and would be keeping the tanks at the wrong temp if I hadn't checked it with a second, more reliable thermometer. I don't know if this is common with these controllers, but it doesn't hurt to check just in case you have one that is off.

You can safely drop the temp. gradually by a 1 C degree per day -24 hours period .
Dan might be right on this , its always safer to doublecheck with a simple but reliable thermometer .

    They can be calibrated.

I had forgotten they can be calibrated, thanks. One of them wandered off by 3°F

I've put a good old fashioned mercury thermometer on the glass, so far so good, both reading about bang on

28 c. / 82 f. is the right temp. and you can drop it gradually but I haven't had any real issues bringing it down in a day.

I use to run my tanks at 30 c. / 86 f. and have found my fish to be much healthier at the lower temperatures.
