Try to get a better photo of the eye BGK .
Maybe he just got bullied ?
Does he eats ?
Hi,
Today when I got home, i realised one of my discus in one side of the tank all by himself (while the others were on the other side).
This got me suspicious, and i can see a white mark on the underside of it's eye. I'm not sure if it has always been there or not, or if it's just me thinking there's something wrong because I see him by himself.
Let me know what you guys think.
I have attached a photo.

Hi Filip,
I will try and take a better photo.
He still seems to eat, but he seems a little slower than the rest of the pack.
And he's found a spot by himself on one end of the tank, while the rest are at the other end.
My tank is pretty much fully empty, except for a heater, a couple of pipes (from the canister filters), and an airstone so I don't think it could've injured itself from running into those things?.
I said earlier that I have started noticing my discus fighting / starting to establish their pecking order.
I'm leaning towards just a bit of fighting injury.
Have anyone have this problem before?
I'll continue with my 90% water changes daily so it doesn't get infected / heals faster.
I asked similar questions 2 years ago when I got 10 Discus. The best advice I got was to use cold water only from tap, age and heat it. our hot water filters are filled with lead. Furthermore, Dither fish (tetras) in the tank help to sooth them. Dither fish swim around the top and encourages timid fish to relax and venture out.
Just a brief update,
the fish eye seems to be ok.
Is it normal for him to be sort of isolated from the pack?
when he sees the others come out, he will come out too, but he doesn't stick closely with the pack.
and when they hide, he hides by himself.
All the others go up to the top and grab the food.
This guy only eats when the food floats infront of him (but he is eating at least, just not as much).
Has anyone have this happen to their discus?
Everything seems to be going good now, although that discus is still being a rebel and wants to be by himself.
He seems to eat so it's good.
Here are some photos of my fish.
Let me know what you guys think.
More
So far i think i've had them for about 25 days, i'm guessing i've done 21 90% water changes.
Close to daily water changes, except for a few days where i got lazy / too busy
They look great in shape ,colour and patterns BGK .
Ill keep my fingers crossed for you about their growth potential and hoping they will reach decent size too .

Hi,
I know the more water changes the better.
But just received our water bill and it's like more than double what we usually pay lol.
Currently i try to do daily 90% water changes.
Do you think 90% water changes every second day will do much harm?
They are about 10months old right now, will this cause problem to their growth?
Also currently I feed 3x a day
Morning: Tetra Colour Bits
Afternoon: Beefheart Mix (followed by water change)
Night: FDBW
is this enough?
If i do water changes every 2nd day, then I would only feed the Beefheart Mix every 2nd day as well.
Therefore, 1 day i will feed 3x, the next 2x and so on.
Is this a problem for their growth as well?
I will post some more photos when I have time of my discus.
They appear to have grown a bit, and seem extremely healthy.
Do you think at 10months or so, there will still be much growth?
Thanks guys!
Hi Ryan,
I have a 50gal with 6 Discus.
Bare bottom tank
2 external canister filters (which i turn off during feedings and clean once every 2 weeks - clean each one alternative weeks)
Water temp 28.5c
pH about 8
Let me know what other info would help.
I just prefer to do 90% water changes every 2nd day rather than 50% water changes each day if it's not going to be a big difference.
Obviously the more changes the better. I was doing too infrequent water changes. When I switched to 80% every other day I saw much better results.
90% every other day may work for you. It will all depend on feeding, maintenance etc. Sounds like you do pretty well with maintenance.
What size are the fish currently?
They will always let you know when you aren't changing enough water
I would say most are about 12-13cm (about 5 inches)
there is 1 that just hasn't grown much and is at like 9-10cm
Their about just over 10 months old.
With your BB tank , your keeping routines and your current bioload I would assume that it would be fairly safe to cut down your 90% WC to 3-4 times weekly.
Your fish are almost adults but they still got some growing and catching up to do , so don't loose hope on their growth potential.
Hey all,
2 of my discus just laid eggs WOOOOO!!!
I made a thread in the breeding section.
Please go to it and help me answer some of the questions I have if you can
So excited!
