Superglue gel. You can even put a dab on the plant and stick it on submerged driftwood/rocks.

I would be very careful with this method. A user here recently had some awful events do to using a toxin and it killing off fish.
Not a way I'd be willing to go and if you do then cure it extra long but not sure how that would work if the plant need to be submerged.

I tied Anubias to my driftwood last October and the da*n thing still hasn't rooted! The first time I did it, the thread dissolved within 3 weeks. Then I used dental floss, which works well but the plant does not root.

Superglue is recommended by a number of aquarium experts and local hobbyists have used it to great success. I'm told that it'll work even when the substrate is wet (obviously not submerged at the time). So next time!

+1 on the thread for plants that root quickly. It does dissolve so by the time it does the plant is rooted you don't have to go back in and remove it. Worked great for my Java Moss.

Make small cuts in wood or seek splits.

I've tried several options and my favourite is rubber bands. Easy to move and stick new plants under, and they are easily removed once the plant has attached.

It sounds scary, but is actually perfectly safe. In fact, I just glued a some more anubias and java fern onto some driftwood yesterday. It forms a skin under water that is broken when you smash it against something, so I dab glue on the plant and stick in on to the driftwood that is still submerged...all of my discus are just fine. Reefers use this method to glue stuff all of the time in tanks loaded with expensive corals and other livestock.

+ for superglue. and u dont see no string/rubber band or whatever. gives it a clean look. and superglue is safe. how do u think salt water people stick their corals to rocks? loctite gel is the brand i use from home depot. works like a charm. just lol @ people using threads/fishing lines/rubber bands to tie their plants.
