Thanks for all this great info'. We will be spending 6 nights in Kona, and hopefully have time to visit some of the places you mentioned. The trip to the observatory sound like an adventure in itself, and would be good to get up above the clouds. I'm hoping the weather will play nice while we are there, as its a big part of making any holiday pleasant. I've heard of the Black sands Beach, but not the Green Sands, so another thing for me to take a look at.....l'm starting to wish that l planned to stay longer on the big island now. We paid for all our flights and accommodation today, and are all set
Thanks again for your input
We're here for a good time...not a long time

Sounds like Pearl Harbor is already on your must do list, that was one of my two immediate thoughts. Diamond Head was the second thing that came to mind, especially since you said you were interested in volcanoes. I understand the walking trails inside it etc. are quite nice these days. Decades ago when I was inside it the dang thing was full of surface to air missiles. Apparently Pearl Harbor being bombed again was not going to happen. If you want to do some shopping in Oahu, I'd suggest stopping by the International Marketplace.

Thanks Keith. We have Pearl Harbor and Diamond Head on our list. I'm looking forward to doing the hike at Diamond Head, to enjoy the views...only because l can't do the 'stairway to heaven' hike Really looking forward to the shopping as l am able to get value for my dollar unlike here in Australia. Thanks for your input.

You're gonna enjoy it, whatever you end up doing there. We're booked for Bali this year, will be interesting how it compares. Everything looks a hell of a lot cheaper than in Hawaii, hotels for example, Honolulu is one of the most expensive cities worldwide.
Joe, this is the guy I mentioned doing the food tour:

Well worth it, enjoy Hawaii
Hanauma bay, Polynesian cultural center, Dole plantation, Honolulu aquarium, North Shore, kaolua ranch, lagoon in koolina, sea life park
My bags are packed and I'm ready to go. Flying out in a few hours.
I just wanted to thank everybody here for their input, as it helped alot.
First port of call is Kona on the big island to fish with Fire Hatt Sportfishing.....I think my wife Rita is very excited
