Flakes expanding?
First, I appreciate all the time and input users put in to making this forum nothing less than great. I am new to discus and am definitely hooked. The information throughout the forum has helped with several mistakes I undoubtedly would have made if not for reading it here first. The three discus I currently have all love the flakes I feed them, in addition to bloodworms.
My one concern is regarding the fish flakes. I believe I read somewhere the flakes could potentially expand in discus stomachs, so it is a good practice to have them soak for roughly 5 to 10 minutes prior to feeding the discus, and I wanted to hear people's input or experience regarding this matter.
I appreciate all the thoughts and opinions!!

Re: Flakes expanding?
Justin,
Welcome. The few times I have fed flakes I did not soak them and I did not see any problems. I do soak pellets before I feed them. I mostly feed a beefheart mixture.

I use flake food and don't soak prior to introducing to the tank. I have not had any problems.

Re: Flakes expanding?
I never soak my flakes or granule when feeding to fry and adult. So far no issue with bloating even they are overfed besides most are highly digestible

Re: Flakes expanding?
Flakes will be Ok,but some pellets will expand in the stomachs of fish making them look bloated and even cause problems.Altho this is not always the case.
