How to get rid of this gunk from old water line on inside of tank?

So i bought a 55 gallon today, trying to get rid of this stain/gunk crap from the old water line


Anybody have any tips? i wiped it with clorox wipes a couple times but as soon as it gets wiped dry/dries it just comes back and looks ugly.

Ill include a pic so you guys understand what im talking about

Tried the sandpaper grit, worked a little bit.

Probably will use a little vinegar too now.

It worked okay, not perfectly though.

It's possible the glass is etched. In this instance you would need to polish it, and it probably would've been better to buy a new tank.

All the tanks in my fish room are old so I wasn't expecting perfection. You might try wetting the sand paper with muriatic acid. Wear gloves. JBurgo is correct. If you're looking for perfection you need either to get very lucky or buy new.
