altums and heckles do just fine together.i pretty much raised mine together int the same tank 180g never had any issues, discus got food first altums waited. i would suggest that you have at least a 150 gal tank
I have 8 P. altum which were supposed to go with my Green wilds, however I recently got a couple of pike cichlids, which are now planned for these. The altums are too small for me to dare put them in with them.
I have a group of 12 Blue wilds and a group of 10 Heckels, both blackwater and both only coydoras as companions for now. Tank size, parameters, filtration etc are virtually identical.
I am aware that the combination of Altums and Discus is controversial, but I do want to try it out.
Which group would you chose and why?
Thanks

i voted none of the above, I think you should do a strictly altum tank with the pike cichlids. this guy I follow on youtube has an altum tank with pikes and a ray and it does great.

Well, the Altums are too small for the Crenicichla right now, which I why I have to make the decision between blue and heckel, for now. Ultimately I would love to give them their own tank, but it would have to be a decent size, too. My wife is not too keen on having a fourth large aquarium in the house, so it's a no go atm.
Thanks for your comment though, all thoughts are appreciated.
