    Default Open wound with fungus

Hi, I recently moved my aquarium and one of the discus was injured during the move. Three of them had small scratches but the biggest discus opened a big wound on each side. He has fungus growing on both sides now. I have them all in a methylene blue bath. The big guy is staying to himself mostly and not eating but his swimming and breathing is normal. Is there anything else I should to to help speedy his recovery, or is the methylene blue good enough for now?

I have malachite green and could get potassium permanganate if needed but I don't have any experience using them before. Water in tank is at 86F and doing 25% water changes every two days. The other two fish are having a good time in the tank and will move out to other tank tomorrow or Tuesday. Attaching pictures as soon as I figure out how.

In advance, thank you for your help and advice.

Please copy and paste with your answers to this Questionnaire ....................... http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showth...lease-complete
In the meantime drop your temperature to 82 F and do 50% to 70 % water changes daily

I'll let others address the wound, but you can add pics to your post using the third icon from the right in the posting frame. You can choose to select them from your computer or other source. The max size is 2Mb.

Just got done with the water change.

    1. Please explain the problems with your fish. When did you notice the problems and did anything unusual happen that you think started them?
The problem started two days ago (Friday) when I moved him in a plastic bag. The fish got two lesions on his each side of his body. Yesterday (Saturday), I noticed there was some white, cloudy stuff coming out of the wound (I assume fungus).

    2. Symptoms (i.e. turning dark, excess slime, not eating, clamped fins, flashing, darting, clamped gills, white/yellow/green poop, hiding, headstanding or tailstanding, white on tips of fins, rotting or fungus, blisters/white zits on fish, bloated, cloudy eyes, wounds).
There is some white, cloudy stuff coming out of the wound (I assume fungus) and one of his eyes is cloudy.

    3. What medications/ treatments have you already tried and what were the results. Include dosage and duration of treatment.
Methylene blue bath as listed in instructions (3 drops / gallon of water) for 1 day.

    4. Tank size and ages, numbers and sizes of fish.
40 gallon tank with 4 adult discus (Over 2 years old)

    5. Water change regime (What percentage and how often).
Was doing 25% change every other day but am am doing 50% daily (beginning today Sunday)

    6. How long has tank been running? Is it bare bottom? If you have substrate, what type and how deep is it?
Tank was just set up on Friday.

    7. Do you age your water? If you do for how long and what is the ph swing.
I do not age the water, uncertain of ph swing.

    8. Parameters and water source;

    - temp 86°F (lowered to 82°F starting today Sunday)

What type of water or combinations of water sources do you use? If it is an RO/tap/well water mix, please list percentages in the mix.
    municipal water

    9. Any new fish, plants or inverts added recently.
    No.

    10. Please tell us what you feed your fish and how often. This can be critical information for solving the problem so be as specific as you can.
    Tetra Colorbits & Tubifex 3x/day

    11. Include any pictures or videos you have which shows the symptoms. If you can't add them to this post, please provide a link to them.

I hope you are not feeding live Tubifex 3 times a day. If you are, stop feeding Tubifex. Swabbing with Tincture of iodine will help heal. For instructions follow this thread.............http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showth...dine-H2O2-etc)

How big is the new tank? The 40 gal. seemed small for 4 full grown adult discus, with such a low WC routine. You really should know your water parameters, especially since they appear to be wild discus. You really don't want wild discus going in a high GH/KH.After 2 years of just 25% WC's every two days, seems like a lot of dirty water has been left behind.Iodine at this point seems like a good start.H2O2 can hinder healing tissue, but can be used before healing begins. You may also need an antibiotic if an infection sets in.

Did the iodine swab. It's been 24 hours and no fungus re-growth. Am monitoring to see how he progresses and will write updates. Thank you,

They are wild discus. The tank has a sump with an extra 16 gal. I haven't monitored water parameters in the past. Wouldn't even know where to start. Updating the water change routine and researching into GH/KH for now. Will write updates on the fish. Thank you,
