Question Using Reverse Osmosis for 55 gal Planted Discus Aqaurium

Do I need to add anything to the Ro water or is it safe to just add it to the aquarium. I currently have two discus, one Raphael catfish, tetras, and a bristle nose pleco. My tank is planted. My tap water is off the charts for general hardness so I don't have much of a choice but to use r/o water.

No, you can't use straight RO. You either need to add a product such as Kent's RO right or Seachem's Replenish, however with a planted tank you'd probably want to use Seachem Equilibrium due to concerns with phosphates in the others. Or use some of the waste/reject water from your RO unit. I use RO right, just because it's easier to get my ratios right and I don't have a planted tank. BTW a TDS meter is invaluable to give you a rough idea on your ratios in your aging barrel.

Have you tried to see what a 50/50 mix would give you and may avoid having to remineralize your ro water
