Default is compatibility different based on personality?

Hello, before I post my question, I'll put up my tank stats:
    125 gallon 6ft long
    fluval fx 6
    temp: 82F
    sand substrate, lightly planted.
stock: 1 senegal bichir (6inches), 1 red tailed shark, 1 gourami, 1 black skirt tetra,2 angels, 4 discus( I'm buying more soon so that they can shoal)

I'm part of a group on facebook called Discus Inside Out, and everyone there is telling me to get rid of my gourami and red tailed shark.
my shark and gourami are very mellow and only chase each other sometimes. they have never harassed my discus.

should I still get rid of them? and why if so.

I would also get rid of the bichir as well. They stay active at night.Gourmais and red tail sharks are also not the best tank mates for discus. In a discus tank the discus should be the dominant fish.Sharks and gouramis can be aggressive at feeding time.Red tail sharks can get pretty big and can harass docile fish like discus.

Part of the reason to remove the shark at least is they are extremely active and discus do not like this in larger fish.. They tolerate it in small ones like tetras. In your tanks case, the shark is being kept in water that 82F , really they are a cooler water fish, in the 70s is best for them. I suspect the higher temp is making it even more active!

The Gourami is not much different than the angels in Temperament and activity... and really should not be too much of a problem in that regard.

However, the tank mates you have chosen here are all going to affect the amount of food your discus get... They are all more aggressive eaters in general than discus..

+1 to what is mentioned above. Also if your bichir is anything like mine it is constantly on the move. Day and night and is a voracious feeder. Not really the best companion for discus. I have one in my community tank and he can take down a cube of fdbw to himself in seconds.

Several words from the wise have been given. The best interest of the Discus is the target for the advice. Rolling the dice is an option but continued 7's are not guaranteed. You been warned. Good luck. "T"

Definitely the right move. I love gouramis but I don't know how feeding would work with discus in the same tank. My gouramis in my planted tank eat like crazy and get bloated real quick. If they were in the tank with discus during feeding time, I think they may explode.
