    Default Hith

    New Month, another sick Discus.

0 - Nitrite, Nitrate and Ammonia

    WC - 50% daily.

Treating with MetroPlex and Furan 2.

Tough finding metro in LFS, had to order through Amazon.
Female of my proven pair, this one will be tougher to swallow if I lose her.

Rob that may be a hole and in the fishes head but its definitely not:" HITH".

Metro probably wont help here. With a sore like that its probably systemic by now and requires something stronger and more easily absorbed like kanamycin. Honest assessment though is that fish wont survive and if it did I would always worry it was a carrier of something like mycobacteria

I see, no worries then, sorry for the negativity, but Discus and I didn't mesh since the beginning, I'll just move forward with what I have left. I hear knitting is another popular hobby.

Al , just out of curiosity , how can you tell if it's not a hole from a HITH but rather a systematic bacterial infection ?
By its severity or something else ?

I don't think so, it occurred right after spawning, and it just spread and grew, very fast.

I was just kidding about knitting, I type on a keyboard for a living, so I probably already have RSI.

Filip, its really by the magnitude and rapid development....this is an acute infection as opposed to the slowforming facial pits and lateral line erosion commonly (for better or worse) called HITH.

Talked to Kenny earlier, he made a good point, on the second spawn they spawned on a piece of driftwood, so she may had injured her self while cleaning on it (good question Jacklyn), which explains the hole around the head area, and with the added stress of caring for the eggs probably had a weakened immune system, so things just went down hill from there.

is it just me or am I the only one that thinks this is healable. there was a thread about a leopard discus I believe that got a huge wound just like this in the same spot. I'm searching for the thread to show you how it healed just perfectly OP.

Unfortunately I have faced this 2-3 times as I toyed with wood or
Decor and a fish jabbed themself for an injury. Just as unfortunate, I've had it go
Both ways on me. I think both jack and al are in a way right. At some points it gets too far
Gone or infected bad and it's tough to recover. But in isolation with constant fresh waster and I used furan 2 I believethe fish did bounce back and heal nicely

Sad very nice fish that's why water change is very crucial. I used PP once a month to reduce bacteria
