    Default White spot or not?

    Problem

    1. Please explain the problems with your fish. When did you notice the problems and did anything unusual happen that you think started them?

One discus, approx 3+" has several white spots. Large on forehead, two on side of body, one small one on tail fin. Was eating and active when spots first were noticed and after a day has now begun to not eat or beg for food. He hangs out in solitude most of the time rarely joining up with the rest of the group. Nothing has been changed from the Daily routine.

    2. Symptoms (i.e. turning dark, excess slime, not eating, clamped fins, flashing, darting, clamped gills, white/yellow/green poop, hiding, headstanding or tailstanding, white on tips of fins, rotting or fungus, blisters/white zits on fish, bloated, cloudy eyes, wounds).
Not eating, hanging out alone. White spots.

    3. What medications/ treatments have you already tried and what were the results. Include dosage and duration of treatment.

    5. Water change regime (What percentage and how often).
Daily 50% change with weekly 75-80%

    6. How long has tank been running? Is it bare bottom? If you have substrate, what type and how deep is it?

Tank running for 2 months, tetras have been in for 1.5 months, discus had been in for 3weeks. Bare bottom

    7. Do you age your water? If you do for how long and what is the ph swing.
One day age, seachem prime and instant amazon added before the aging begins
    8. Parameters and water source;

Note: Water Parameters are important in diagnosing problems within a tank. If you don't own test kits for the following information, you can purchase them, test your parameters and post this info as soon as possible.

    - ph ___7.6 (stable)__

    - ammonia reading ____0

Exactly why I was waiting to take any sort of action in fear of miss-diagnosis. Looking for some more advice before I try anything. This morning he was up and active begging for food. This could not have been a worse time as my city issued a "boil water" alert late Saturday night. Have a resivour of water waiting that I filled well before the "boil water alert" and have skipped a day of water changes as they expect the warning to be lifted Tuesday. This evening was planning on changing the 50% that I can (or more just have a lower water level) and then doing a massive water change and cleaning once the alert is lifted and have comfortably ran many gallons of clean water through all the taps which will happen Wednesday if all goes as planned. Then will start daily 80% until I am instructed otherwise or the discus in question has been healthy for a while before I return to normal 50%

so the spots just look like pimples to me. pimples are easy to diagnose and to cure, you simply need cleaner water. Pimples are a sure sign that your water quality is off, usually meaning your nitrates are high. They are our discus first signal to us that something is off. FOr example when I go on vacations and skip several days of water changes, my discus also get these pimples, but after a couple extra large waterchanges viola they are gone.

Now the white stringy poop, I suggest you pick up some metro and treat as directed. Angelsplus.com has it in bulk and their packaging has clear instructions on the bottle.

Should I treat the whole tank with metro or put the singe fish in quarantine? Assuming the whole tank seeing as one has it someone else might just too early to show signs. Will pick up metro today or overnight it.

Were it me, I would treat the whole tank. Metro is relatively gentle and will not hurt any fish that are not affected, but it is likely everyone else needs a dose as well.
