    Default Soaking freeze-dried food

Does freeze-dried food need to be soaked before feeding, particularly for small fish? I recall reading on here in the past that it does not, but can't find any specific info on why it's okay. One would think the food could expand in the fish's stomach after ingestion, not good for small fish (like tetras).

For juvies and adult discus its usually not necessary to soak something like freeze dried blackworms as they soak up water fast. Krill and mysis should be ...its harder.

With small fish and fry its not a bad idea and something I do.One food I have always soaked is non-hatching decapsulated shrimp cysts...these can easily double in size as they soak up water. I have lost angel fry to them so always soak them about 10 -20minutes.

Thanks. I bet the posts I read about no need to soak were in reference to adults. How much of a soak is needed for things like Artemia and Daphnia?

For fry feeding and small fish I would think 10 mins would be enough...

Sometimes theres a fish in the group thats a pig and eats way too much too fast! Tetrabit users often run into this and soak their pellets just in case. Sounds like you may want to ...just in case.

Lost a juvie that ate like a pig and one day it gorged and died. Even now the remaining 9 are bigger but I still hydrate the fdbw.

Hmmm I've never seen headstanding after feeding before and I've had some real hog beasts in my tanks. It wasn't uncommon for some of my fish to double their width from feeding lol
