    Default Discus in trouble..Need help

    1. Please explain the problems with your fish. When did you notice the problems and did anything unusual happen that you think started them?
    This started about a week ago,discus started hiding,not eating at first,really scared of any sudden movements,white spots.

    2. Symptoms (i.e. turning dark, excess slime, not eating, clamped fins, flashing, darting, clamped gills, white/yellow/green poop, hiding, headstanding or tailstanding, white on tips of fins, rotting or fungus, blisters/white zits on fish, bloated, cloudy eyes, wounds).

    3. What medications/ treatments have you already tried and what were the results. Include dosage and duration of treatment.
    im on 4th day of treatment with Fish Mox which is an Antibacterial Fish Medication,used to treat some common bacterial diseases in fish imcluding dropsy,finrot,red pest and diseases caused by bacteria
    directions call for 1 capsule for 10 gallons ive been running at half dose
    ive used this product before when i first started with discus and it worked like a dream 3 days cleared up fin rot but now im not getting the same results.


    Tank/Water

    4. Tank size and ages, numbers and sizes of fish.
    125 gallon
    11 Discus-8 juveniles and 3 about 4"
    1 baby arowana
    8 neon tetras
    2 Corys

    5. Water change regime (What percentage and how often).
    i did 50% every 2 days but with the recent events ive been on 50% to 75% daily.
    6. How long has tank been running? Is it bare bottom? If you have substrate, what type and how deep is it?
    its been running for a few months,bare bottom with 2 big peices of drift wood and 4 big potted amazon swords

    7. Do you age your water? If you do for how long and what is the ph swing.


    8. Parameters and water source;
    use python for water changes,straight from tap
    Note: Water Parameters are important in diagnosing problems within a tank. If you don't own test kits for the following information, you can purchase them, test your parameters and post this info as soon as possible.


    - temp _84-86____

    - ph __7.6___

    - ammonia reading __0ppm__

    - nitrite reading _0ppm___

    - nitrate reading __5.0__

    What type of water or combinations of water sources do you use? If it is an RO/tap/well water mix, please list percentages in the mix.

    - well water ____

    - municipal water ____

    - RO water ____


    9. Any new fish, plants or inverts added recently.
    3 new juveniles added 2 weeks ago after they were in QT for a week

    10. Please tell us what you feed your fish and how often. This can be critical information for solving the problem so be as specific as you can.
    frozen,dried blood worms,beef heart and tetra color tropical granules


    11. Include any pictures or videos you have which shows the symptoms. If you can't add them to this post, please provide a link to them.

    concerns me. I week isn't anywheres near long enough for a Quarantine I am afraid. Its very likely you introduced something 2 weeks ago.

    Amoxicillan (fishmox) @ half strength probably isnt going to help here. Its a medication with limited use in an aquarium,ime.

    I would suggest removing the driftwood for now. let it dry out in the sun. See if you can get some better pictures... I need to see the sides of the discus ...Are there any white patches on the sides? Pigeons are hard to see this on, blues or browns its easier if you have them. If you plan on using the fish mox longer, use it full strength.

    Are the other non-discus affected?

    can i ask what the reason is for removing the driftwood?

    there is no visual white marks on the sides of any of my fish..only the fins on more then half of the discus
    heres a picture of my juve yellow one who has it bad
