and a (bad) video. This is Saturday morning, as you can see mom (suspected) guarding the cone, while dad begs for food.
Well this weekend was big for me. Could not have come at a better time, last week I had 6 job interviews and our hot water heater went out so I was super stressed. Came home Friday from work to this!!!

All day Saturday they guarded and protected the cone, keeping the hungry dicrossus away while the other discus minded their own business on the other side of the tank. They took turns during breakfast and dinner guarding the cone while the other one went to eat a FDBW cube, then they would switch places. It was so entertaining to stay inside all day Saturday and watch them. I left the light on for them at night, and by Sunday morning they were still on the cone but when I came home from church Sunday the eggs were gone.
This morning the pair was staring at the cone and being protective over the area again, until I put FDBW cubes in the tank that is, then they forgot.
Went in the basement, pulled out my old 30gal hexagon tank, painted 4 of the 6 sides white as well as the bottom, cleaned it, cleaned it again and set it up in a corner of the basement. Going to test it tonight for leaks and go from there.
one more with the pesky dicrossus filamentosus

UPDATE: SPAWN #4
went home on my lunch break and got to witness first hand spawning!!! it was so lovely, I didn't want to come back to work. When I left they were still going, and I confirmed that the smaller is female and larger is the male. The clutch was small when I left maybe 50 eggs or so but they were still going

Are they eating the eggs Jacklyn?

Your discus are talking to you....are you listening
yes the last time it was the female, I got up last Saturday morning (eggs were around 40 hours old I think) and the female had decided to have eggs for breakfast.

spawn #3 = 7/7/2017
spawn #4 = 7/13/2017
spawn #4 = 7/19/2017
this post is really just for my own notes, they are spawning every six days since first discovering the cone.
~JACKLYN~
I would be tempted at this point to separate the pair from the other two with a piece of poret foam. Might make the difference.

What are your params? do you do anything to encourage them to spawn? Would love to get my wild greens to spawn!
good luck!
my water is well water, pretty soft but not low ph like you would expect. ph around 7.6, nitrates 5 or less depending on how long after a water change and spiking to 10 if I skip a day which happens sometimes. 83 degrees, tds unknown, gh and kh unknown (I can test for these things I just don't normally)
