    Default Eye Infection? Help!

We need some help on diagnosing what this is so we can treat him correctly! We have looked online and can't seem to decide what this could be. I've posted a couple of pics so please let me know what you think it is!

    1. Please explain the problems with your fish. When did you notice the problems and did anything unusual happen that you think started them?

Our discus has one cloudy eye that is bulging out. We noticed about 3 days ago but hasn't gotten any worse. We have a tank with 15 discus and none of the other fish have cloudy eyes or are acting different.

    2. Symptoms (i.e. turning dark, excess slime, not eating, clamped fins, flashing, darting, clamped gills, white/yellow/green poop, hiding, headstanding or tailstanding, white on tips of fins, rotting or fungus, blisters/white zits on fish, bloated, cloudy eyes, wounds).

The only thing wrong is that he can't see out of the eye. He is still eating fine, isn't changing colors, and isn't breathing heavy

    3. What medications/ treatments have you already tried and what were the results. Include dosage and duration of treatment.

We put this discus in a 20gal tank by itself and did water changes in both tanks. We are using melafix to treat him but haven't noticed any improvements

    4. Tank size and ages, numbers and sizes of fish.

The tank is 185 gallons, we have 15 discus, an angel fish, and neon tetras. The discus range from 2-6 inches

    5. Water change regime (What percentage and how often).

We have an aquarium specialist that comes in once a week for water changes so I'm not too sure how much is taken out when changed...

    6. How long has tank been running? Is it bare bottom? If you have substrate, what type and how deep is it?

The tank has been running for almost a year, we have a rock substrate that goes about and inch or 2 off the bottom

    Hi,
    and Welcome to SimplyDiscus!

Thats a pretty bad eye infection. Melafix is unfortunately not going to have an effect. The cause could have been a scrap or small wound that got infected. At this point you are looking at the fish losing that eye. Its really unlikely that it will heal. I'm sorry about that. Its possible that the fish will wall off the infection with no assistance from you but since it got this bad its probably a good idea to try an antibiotic. Kanamycin sulfate or minocycline (maracyn 2) would be my top choices.
