Al, go to your account on Flickr and go to the Privacy and Permissions settings. About halfway down the page you will see Auto Tags. Turn that off and see if that is what you want.

Stumbled on this by chance while posting my last photos from the lavender farm.Apparently Flickr must use some kind of automatic image recognition software to generate tags . I entered no tags at all when I uploaded my pics and yet the dragon fly pic has tags calling it....
Macro, insect, dragon fly. The butterfly also had tags added...butterfly, macro. Not all the pics had tags though so the more objects in it the more difficult to tag maybe. Whats odd is I dont see the tags in my Images in my flickr account....they only show up if the image is viewed when I am not logged into my account on a browser. I just stubbled on this as I was showing my.wife the pics on her phone.
Not sure how I feel about tags being generated on my images automatically. There must be a setting involved somewhere. Maybe where you select if the image is publically searchable? Anyone know?

Al, apparently that is not enough. Try this
Delete a tag from all of your photos
Mouse over You | select About.
Click the number above "tags."
Click Delete beside the tag.
Click Delete, then click OK to confirm.

I've just started actively putting tags on my images. Before it was a gallery for me, as I want to start pushing work out I have to tag. I saw it auto tag a few of mine, though I never noticed any pattern to it. I would guess it could read EXIF data and see that if you are using a macro lens it could tag macro. I think it's pretty cool, saves me some time putting in 25 tags and what not. It should be an option though for people who want to opt out. You can always delete the auto tags.
I searched it up, looks like it looks for patterns in the photos common to other photos uploaded to Flickr. If you delete any tags that are wrong, the algorithm should learn for the future. It's all computer and algo based, no human will view the photo to tag it.

The thing is I dont see the tags when I am logged in to my account. It shows no tags at all even when I try and edit the image tags. I can only see the tags when not logged into my account , in which case I can't remove the tags because Im not logged in.

Al. log into your flickr account and go to one of your images with tags. View an single image and scoll down the page a little. You will see Tags with Beta in a orange box. You can delete the tags by mousing over a tag and click on the X.
